Everyone loves to see a beautiful, healthy smile. It opens the door to your personality and says so much about you as an individual. At Dentistry on Wynford, we know how to make you smile. Every patient is treated as an individual so that, together, we can determine the level of smile improvement that is personally right for you.

Here are some of the services from which you can choose to start on the road to the beautiful, welcoming smile that you have always wanted.

Porcelain Veneers
The ultimate cosmetic restoration! Veneers are thin shells of porcelain which are custom-fitted to the teeth much like artificial nails are applied to fingers. Veneers are infinitely variable and can be used to improve the colour, size, shape and positions of your teeth. They may even be used to correct crowding of teeth for 'instant orthodontics' without bands or braces.

Bleaching
Considered to be an entry-level approach to cosmetic dentistry, bleaching or whitening is often the simplest method of improving your smile with the least effort. Stains, discoloration and the effects of aging can disappear in short order. At Dentistry On Wynford we provide a full range of gentle bleaching options to satisfy every need and budget. From Crest Whitestrips® to take-home tray bleaching and our in-office, one hour Apollo® process, a brighter smile can be yours for the choosing.

Tooth-Coloured Fills
In the past, having a filling meant placing ugly, silver restorations in your teeth. Aside from appearance, many patients are concerned about the health aspects of metallic fillings. At Dentistry On Wynford, we are totally mercury-free and our goal is to provide metal-free restorations wherever feasible. Tooth-coloured, composite resin fillings look good, are durable and can even restore strength to teeth weakened by decay or previous restorations.

Inlays, Onlays & Crowns
In those situations where resin fillings may not be suitable we may choose from a wide range of aesthetic alternatives.

Unlike standard fillings, inlays and onlays are constructed in the laboratory by our skilled dental technician. This process produces a restoration with the improved wear and durability characteristics needed for large fillings. These are then bonded to the teeth to reinforce the weakened structure created when a tooth has been badly decayed or broken.

Crowns are also constructed by our laboratory technician. These ceramic shells completely surround and restore tooth structure where it has been extensively damaged or destroyed. As with all of our restorations, at Dentistry On Wynford our goal is to provide you with natural looking, metal-free crowns whenever possible. These provide the best combination of appearance and strength.

Bonding
One of the earliest techniques used to create more beautiful smiles, bonding involves moulding and sculpting layers of tooth-coloured resin on to the surface of the teeth. This can usually be completed in one appointment and often without anaesthesia. Since resin is only moderately durable this technique is reserved today for limited situations such as chipped teeth, closing gaps and single teeth when either time or money are major factors.

Implants
Dental implants are strong, durable artificial tooth replacements that are used to counter tooth loss. Although you have a number of restorative options for the treatment of missing teeth, none have proven to be as functionally effective, durable and natural looking as implants. In many cases, dental implants may be the only logical choice for the restoration of all necessary functionality of the teeth and supporting structures.

Tooth loss may be a result of:

  • Tooth decay
  • Root canal failure
  • Periodontitis (gum disease)
  • Trauma to the mouth
  • Excessive wear and tear

People who have lost teeth might feel too self-conscious to smile or talk. Additionally, biting irregularities caused by tooth loss can have a negative effect on eating habits and this can lead to secondary health problems like malnutrition.

Advantages of Implant Dentistry
At Dentistry on Wynford, we use implants in conjunction with other restorative procedures for maximum effectiveness. For example, we can use a single implant to support a crown replacing a single missing tooth or more than one implant to support a dental bridge for the replacement of multiple missing teeth. We can even use implants with dentures to increase stability and reduce gum tissue irritation.
